Sculpture Gardens

We recently visited a sculpture garden and had a lovely time.  When the children were small, and not even in school yet, we made these sorts of trips to gardens, museums and science centers all the time.  However, as the children have gotten older it doesn't seem to happen as often since the children are in school all day.  Yesterday, it was a pleasant surprise to discover how the children have changed when interacting with art; they ask different sorts of questions and seem to take it in a bit more.  This trip was a good reminder to me to make and take the time to visit these these sorts of places more often.

Looking at the sculptures with the children also presented an opportunity to have some really frank discussions with the children.  There were lots of nudes and after the children had a giggle or two it was a good time to have a chat about art and our bodies.  Also?  They were delighted with the girl sculpture below.  Can you tell what she is doing?

We love how they have realistic figures planted throughout the garden.  You never know when you are going to come upon one.  The children spotted these children up on the roof!

They have lots of peacocks roaming the gardens.  We even saw a Mama and her babies.

The detail on some of the works was absolutely incredible.

  1. This is a MOST ENTERTAINING post ! ! We were grinning from ear to ear. It will be revisited often. Surprising Grace and Harris didn't go up on the roof too ! These photos are priceless as they show the humorous side of a day at the sculpture garden. Oh! And in that 1st photo those plants look large enough to consume Grace and Harris! How is it no one else responded to this terrific post??
