A few weeks ago Bryce and I went on a tour of Bunny Mellon's property, Little Oak Springs, in Virginia. We were lucky to have a beautiful day in which to wander around the property! There was much to see and be inspired by!
While, of course, our farm will never be on par with so many of the gardens we visit, it never fails to inspire me in some way to bring an idea, or two. back home. While talking to her longtime Butler (who now works for the foundation) we learned that she typically had 12 house staff and between 30-40 gardeners at any given time! That is an important reminder to me that what I see on these tours is very different than what we can do here with just us!
The famous Crabapple Allee was truly beautiful! It led to the greenhouses, where she had the vestibule painted with trompe l'oeil of her favorite things. This included her and Paul's wedding rings!
It was a lovely day, full of inspiration and beauty!
