Airstream Adventure #6- The Adirondacks

Last week, we took an end of the summer Airstream trip to the Adirondacks.  It was a truly wonderful trip that was full of all the best of what summer offers.  Here are some snapshots...

Our campsite, at Fish Creek Pond Campground, was amazing.  We were right on the lake and were able to open up The SilverFrog to enjoy terrific views everyday.  Also, the children were able to play and swim in the lake right from our site which kept everyone happy and occupied.

At the site next to ours, which happened to be empty, there was a rope swing that was amazing and so, so fun for the children.  I can't think of a more quintessential summer activity!

The most darling ice-cream truck would make its way around the campground offering up scooped ice cream cones!  It had bells on its wheels to let you know it was coming and was utterly charming.

We had fires each night and I tried my hand at cooking in a dutch oven for the first time (it went well, but I need a bigger one).

We went kayaking for a full 7 hours one day- at the end of which I was fairly sure that I had lost the use of my arms.  We paddled through beautiful creeks and open water, we paddled to an island to have lunch amidst tall pines, we swam in the lake and warmed ourselves on the rocks, we even dubbed one rock a mini Rainier...

An Airstream Christmas

Last year, my friend, Ashley, gave me an Airstream card that she had dug up from the Moma archives. I loved it so much that I mounted and framed it so that it can become a permanent part of our Christmas decorations.  Having plaster walls makes it hard to hang non-permanent pictures on the wall so I always switch pictures that are already up for the holiday season (or use 3M hooks!).  It fits in perfectly in our kitchen, and I just love that we have a fun reminder of the Airstream during the Christmas season! Thank you Ashley!

(not sure why the color in this photo is so off!)

Also, I couldn't resist buying an Airstream pillow when I spotted it at Pottery Barn.

Yesterday, we had our first snowfall of the season.  We simply had to run over and put a wreath on the Airstream.  We're thinking she might even make an appearance in our Christmas cards this year!

Airstream Adventure #4

Over the weekend we took the Airstream out for one last trip before winter sets in.  Of course, it felt like winter because it was COLD but there's something very appealing about bundling up and sitting by the fire on a beautiful fall weekend.  We made chili, carved pumpkins, went for bike rides (brrr), hiked to Small Falls and enjoyed a lovely view.  Here are a few snaps shots of our weekend and I hope you too had a beautiful weekend!

P.S.  Since we came home and unpacked, everything smells like smoke!

Assateague National Seashore- Airstream Adventure #3

We just got back from a quick trip to Assateague Island National Seashore.  We had a truly lovely time for the first 24 hours and then the flies showed up and pretty much drove us into the camper.  They were like a cartoon in that you could literally see black swarms following you around.  There might have even been a time when Bryce came into the Airstream and said the words, "I might be about to have a meltdown."  Ha!  We will focus on the first 24 hours because after that I was scared to leave the Airstream...

We had a perfect and beautiful campsite for our two nights there.  I mean, look at our view!  There was even a little path leading to a small beach area.

We saw the wild ponies up and down the beach and a few in our campsite area.  We would be swimming in the ocean and look over to find that the horses were swimming with us!

Of course, we had to read the classic story about Assateague Island, Misty of Chincoteague by Marguerite Henry.
