A birdbath by Kathleen

Our children's garden has had an empty spot for awhile now. Every year I have tried to grow flowers from seed in this spot but for some reason or another they haven't taken. While Kathleen was here she made a birdbath that has found its perfect spot in that location! Kathleen has made these birdbaths before and they are so adorable that I really wanted one for the garden. It is such a charming addition and it's even more special because Kathleen made it!

She starts with two terra cotta pots and a saucer. They are glued together and spray painted on the inside.

Painting comes next.

Each flower and bug is made from our fingerprints! We each were assigned a color and that was the center for each of our flowers.

When she painted the stems on the flowers she worked in our names so that we would always remember which color/flower was ours. Aren't you impressed with her cursive? (With a paint brush no less!)

She also adds grass to the bottom. We each have a critter and a family caterpillar.

And of course every artist should sign their work!

Thank you Kacky for such a lovely addition to our garden. Now we will be waiting for the birds to come and bathe!

Hello, again!  I've gotten so many requests for this information that I'm just going to post it here.  Have fun and good luck!  From Kathleen....

Okay..here's the info for the bird bath.  

I glued the pots together with E600.  It is the best glue and can be found at craft stores and I've even seen it at Hone Depot.  Make sure you get a big tube.  After you've glued the bottoms of the pots together and the saucer, spray paint (any kind is fine )the inside of the bottom pot and let everything sit for about 24 so the glue can fully dry.

The paint I used on the outside is Porch and Patio paint.  I found it at Michael's.  Let the paint dry for several hours then use a UV protectant clear coat.  Krylon makes one.  I used two coats.  

Make sure you don't leave the birdbath out in cold weather, the paint will crack and chip.
