A window box herb garden

I love using fresh herbs in my cooking but I don't love paying for them at the grocery store! They are crazy expensive and not always so fresh. When Bryce and I first married I planted an herb garden at our first home. I loved having it right outside of our kitchen and have missed not having herbs in such abundance (we do, however have a lot of basil in the children's garden!).

Years ago in Martha Stewart Living an herb garden window box was featured in a story, and I decided to replicate it as best as I could. Of course, it is always a little difficult to find exactly what Martha uses without trotting, literally and figuratively via the Internet, all over the country. Where, oh where, does she find everything?

I had a very difficult time finding rosemary topiaries. When I did find them they were $42 a piece! Since I was not willing to spend that sort of money I had to be a bit creative. I bought a rather large rosemary plant, split the roots and made my own! Thankfully, they lived and I'm rather happy with them.

We have been enjoying the herbs and I love that it is steps away from the kitchen. Plus, it looks and smells really pretty!

I've found this is the best way to store herbs that I've gotten at the farm or that I've purchased. I clipped this tidbit out of Country Living Magazine.
