Homemade Christmas Part 2

Grace is so proud of her gift to Harris, and I am so proud of her for working on it so hard and diligently for the past three weeks. One of her favorite things to do at school is to write stories, so she decided to write a story book for Harris. She knew right away that she wanted it to be about pirates with Harris as the main character.

I printed out a story board for her to start with and that really helped her get the general flow of her story.

Once she was done with the storyboard we let her dictate the details to us and we typed them up. I feel like at this point it is more important for her to tell a story than it is for her to physically write the story. Once she had the story the way she wanted it she began to work on the illustrations. For the actual book we used a bare book which I always have on hand for when inspiration strikes (that's the teacher in me).

Here are a few of the pages from her book, The Story of Pirate Harris.

  1. Adorable!! I love the homemade Christmas gift idea.

Sorry I have been a slack commenter. Busy, busy time of year.

    Merry Christmas!

  2. Love the book! Tell Grace that I think she has a real future as an author. Can't wait to hear how they both enjoy their heartmade gifts!
BTW-Your Christmas card picture is beautiful! Cute dress!
    Merry Christmas!

  4. Ooooh what a perfect story about Pirate Harris. It was great to go back and read the story Grace wrote. She has something extra there. The ship began to sink and Harris steered. Super job with the illustrations as well, Grace!

We REALLY like your Christmas photo. And you have such an excellent home setting.
