I have two distinct memories of "outfits" that I loved as a child. One was an OP (Ocean Pacific) pair of leggings and a sweatshirt that I pitched a fit for and wore for longer than I should have, and the other was a sweatshirt featuring little sheep. I even had a matching pair of socks!
Naturally, when I found a sweatshirt that reminded me of my beloved old one, I had to purchase it. Originally, I purchased it for myself but found that I felt a bit silly in it (as a 42 year old!) and eventually Grace took it over. It's unfortunate, but she does not have a matching pair of socks.

Thirteen years ago, a month or two after Grace was born, I purchased a charm bracelet and a charm with the intention of giving it to Grace on her 13th birthday. It seemed like a long, long way off at the time and thought it seems as if we've had Grace forever, it also feels as if it was just a blink of an eye ago that we brought her home.
I would love to be able to tell you that I remembered to buy a charm every year but that is not the case! In fact, I had to buy several at once to get the bracelet up to speed to give to her on her birthday. The plan is to continue adding a charm each year but here's what we have so far...
1. Baby shoes that are engraved with initials and birthdate
2. Cross from Christening
3. and 4. Two charms representing states she's lived in
6. A typewriter
7. A horse
8. Ballet shoes
9. A book
10. A hiking boot
11. Soldier from the Nutcracker
12. A cat

Saturday night Bryce and I went to a ballet gala to support the school where Grace takes her classes. It was a fun evening of watching ballet, getting dressed up and eating good food; all for a wonderful cause! Ron and Gretchen also joined us for the evening. It was made extra fun since Grace was able to attend the Jr. Gala, which was for students who performed in the show (they also have a professional company). The Jr. Gala had a DJ, dinner and lots and lots of dancing! It was such a great way for her to feel an important part of the school and for the girls (and a few boys) to have fun in their own independent way!
Unfortunately, we didn't take the time to take any pictures but these and we didn't get any of Grace! I wore a vintage dress that I bought a while ago and Bryce got to pull out his tuxedo.
I also wore this vintage pin turned hair comb in my hair! I think it's so pretty!

I have a mild case of psoriasis that comes and goes but definitely gets a bit worse during the winter. This past winter (happy Spring!), I kept getting spots of it on my face and was looking for something to keep my face a bit more moisturized than even my beloved moisturizer of years seemed to be doing. I'm not sure how I came upon Shiva Rose Facial Oil, but I now don't want to be without it! I love everything about it; the bottle, the smell and most importantly how it works. I put some on at night and wake up with super soft skin. My skin has never felt better! While it's certainly not inexpensive, I've found that a little goes a long way and while I've been using it for months, I think I'm not even halfway through the bottle yet.
P.S. My vitamin D levels have been low, so I've been taking vitamins. I put the vitamins in an old perfume bottle I had and it looks lovely on my bathroom counter.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Tuesdays are our busiest days, but we still managed to give this holiday some notice. We started the morning off with Lucky Charms and, to balance out the completely unhealthy cereal, a green smoothie. The smoothie was delicious and everyone loved it.
Harris and I made potato candy for an afternoon snack. I was happy that I found a gluten and dairy free version and it actually included a bit of potato in it!
For dinner, we had O'Brien Irish Stew that was truly delicious and one that I will make again! I also made a gluten/dairy free soda bread that turned out pretty decent!
And, last but not least, Grace made cupcakes for her class bake sale!

I'm obsessed with these little apothecary jars that I find here and there (garage sales, antique stores, etc.). I don't think I've ever paid more than $7 for one and I find that they are incredibly useful for all sorts of things. Plus, they fit my criteria of being useful and beautiful.
I've decanted Harris' vitamins and calcium supplements (he's on both because of his dietary restrictions) to the jars. Now they don't bother me as much sitting out, and it's more of a visual reminder to Harris to take them! This one is special because it has a stopper.
Currently, these two are being used to hold cinnamon sticks and matches for the kitchen.
And on my vanity I have a jar filled with q-tips.

Yesterday was the first warmish and sunny day we have had in weeks (months!?)! When that warmth was combined with more daylight in the afternoon it made for some pretty happy and excited children. They went outside and played even though the only surface to play on was our driveway since we still have significant snow coverage. Even funnier? Grace actually put on shorts! It wasn't that warm, but apparently in her mind anything over 45 degrees was shorts weather! So they rollerbladed, skateboarded and played some basketball! Spring is on it's way!
These pictures aren't from yesterday, but I wanted to share them as I think they are so fun! Grace took each of these pictures last fall when she and Harris were having fun with the my camera.

I don't believe that I've posted about one of my favorite purchases. Last fall, I was in an antique store when I spotted this little unassuming table. Something about it appealed to me, and as it wasn't very expensive I went ahead and purchased it. I'm so glad I did because this table gets used all the time!
Also, it folds up when not in use! When you need it, you simply lock the top into place and it won't tip. Genius.
The table is small and lightweight and can therefore be moved around to wherever it is needed. So far it's been used for drinks, homework, bingo card holding, and as a dough holder by the warm fire... you get the drift.

For Grace's birthday, we gave her this gorgeous set of classic books that have covers with illustrations by Anna Bond. I love the idea of giving Grace, as she turns 13, books with wonderful examples of girls coming of age. The characters in these books exemplify many of the character traits that I hope for Grace to continue to develop as she grows and changes. And of course, they are delightful stories!

The weekend before Grace's birthday, we took her and two of her dear friends to see the New York City Ballet perform Romeo and Juliet. It was a beautiful performance and the girls seemed to really enjoy it. We made an afternoon out of it with lunch beforehand and Magnolia Bakery goodies afterwards, where the entire store sang happy birthday to Grace. We are so thankful for good friends and wonderful memories!

We had a lot of fun celebrating 13 years with Grace on Saturday! Saturday morning, we had our traditional panCAKES and that evening she chose to have family over for fried chicken, cake and bingo!
The cake she chose to have is one that she spotted years ago in one of my old Martha Stewart Kids magazines and has been waiting for the perfect birthday to have it. This was the year! It was easy to make and very yummy!
Grace made all the festive decorations for her gathering.
The night before her birthday she also made gluten free cupcakes to take in to her classmates. I'm beginning to feel displaced in the merry making department! Smile.
