New portico

Before
After

Another project is finally done! Remember this post? Al was working on a new roof to go over our side door that leads to the basement. The door previously had a fiberglass awning that was awkward if nothing else. Because there were spotlights that had to be covered the awning wasn't even centered over the door!

Al designed the new roof to match the roof on our house and it was a bit complicated to make since it had curves to it! The ceiling is bead-board and we painted it the same blue that we painted the porch ceiling. We were also able to find a very petite hanging light that I think looks much better than the spotlights that were previously used. I'm very happy with the results and can't thank Al enough for making it happen (and Bryce too!).

P.S. I really wanted to replace the basement door because it had an unattractive window in it, but Bryce was not super keen on the idea because the door fit really well and new doors are expensive. Al had the ingenious idea to just cut a bigger hole in the door and put a new window in. I didn't even know you could do such a thing but it made a big difference.

P.P.S. You might notice in the pictures that we've done a lot of new planting. I might be just a little obsessed with hydrangeas.
